What to expect

How we work together

01

Briefing call

We’ll start with a short call so I can understand your audience, your theme and what you want people to leave with. I’ll shape the session around that, so it lands for your room.

02

Confirmation

A week before the event, you’ll receive an email from me confirming the run sheet, the AV we’ve agreed and my arrival time, so there are no surprises on the day.

03

On the day

I’ll arrive about an hour early to set up, run a tech check and say hello to your team. A keynote runs for 45 to 60 minutes, and I build in 10 to 15 minutes of Q&A so your audience gets to put their own questions to me.

04

Within 72 hours

At the end of the session your attendees can scan a QR code, and within 72 hours I’ll send them the slides, resources and links directly, so there is nothing for you to chase or forward on.

05

Debrief and feedback report

Afterwards, we’ll have a short debrief, and I’ll send you a feedback report on your audience that shows what they valued, in their own words, so you can see the impact the session had on your participants.

AV

I use a lapel mic and present from my own Mac with a clicker. My slides include sound, so your venue will need to provide HDMI or USB-C into the house system with audio, and a confidence monitor if there is one. (I bring my own adapters, so the only thing I’ll need from you is the cable.) I’d like to have my laptop on stage with me where that’s possible, because it allows me to be responsive to questions from the audience with examples. For larger rooms, a roving mic makes the Q&A easier. Ideally the tech check happens in the hour before I speak, so we can test the connections and the sound, but we can talk through timings on the briefing call.

Room

A keynote works in any setup, whether that’s theatre, cabaret, classroom, banquet or a lecture hall. For a masterclass or workshop, a workshop-style room is preferable; ideally tables of 6 to 10, with room to move between the tables. Should that not be possible, we can plan for success with a theatre-style setup during the briefing call.

Formats

I offer a keynote of 45 to 60 minutes, a two-hour masterclass and a half- or full-day workshop, and I’m happy to join as a panellist, fireside guest or MC. Keynotes can be delivered virtually; masterclasses and workshops are in person.

She is also the Founder of YouthX, Australia’s only startup accelerator for school-aged entrepreneurs, and Catapult Cards.

It was her experience teaching an all-boys Year 9 English class that changed everything. She was interrupted by a student who said, “I don’t mean to be rude, miss, but… why are we doing this?” All she could say in the moment was, “Because we have to.” But did we? Did we have to? Thus began the Future Anything story.

Nic is an Australian of the Year (QLD) nominee for 2026, an Obama Foundation Leader, a Snow Entrepreneurs Fellow and a TEDx Brisbane speaker. She passionately believes that youth-led ideas have the power to bend the future and works to provide young people with the support, skills and space they need to take their ideas out of the classroom and into the real world.

She’s an Australian of the Year nominee for Queensland, an Obama Foundation Leader, a TEDx speaker, and has been named one of The Educator’s Most Influential Educators four years running.

Her whole career started with a question from a Year 9 student: “I don’t mean to be rude, miss, but why are we doing this?” She’s been answering it ever since.

Please welcome to [EVENT], Nic Dyson.

Nic Dyson describes her career as the scenic route. She cut pizzas at Pizza Hut, bred and hand-raised baby galahs, and worked as a camp counsellor at a summer camp in America. Then she became a teacher, and found herself at the front of a classroom trying to answer the question everyone has wondered in one: “Why are we doing this?”

Now Nic works with more than 130,000 students to take the problems they care about and turn them into ideas that are innovative, sustainable and scalable — ideas that make money, and make a difference. Our next speaker describes her career as the scenic route. She cut pizzas at Pizza Hut. She bred and hand-raised baby galahs. She worked as a camp counsellor at a summer camp in America. And then she found herself a teacher, standing at the front of a classroom, battling to answer the question we’ve all wondered in one: “Why are we doing this?”

Now, Nic works with more than 130,000 students to take the problems they care about and turn them into ideas that are innovative, sustainable and scalable — ideas that make money, and make a difference. One of them was Tanieka, who took her own experience of bullying and turned it into a pair of socks you hide under your shoes, so you know you’re not alone. Three Year 9s from the Sunshine Coast watched turtles and dolphins caught in shark nets and designed a barrier of magnets that keeps sharks away without netting anything else.

Nic is an Australian of the Year nominee for Queensland, a TEDx speaker, and an Obama Foundation Leader (yes, she’s even met the President). She’s also the eldest of five, solar powered, a turbulence enthusiast, and a covert fantasy reader — not the TikTok-famous romantasy stuff, but the old-school thousand-page kind that needs a world map and a family tree at the front.

Please welcome Nic Dyson.

Questions

A few frequently asked questions

How much are your speaker fees?+

Fees depend on the format, the audience and where the event is, so I quote each one. The quickest way to get a number is to fill in the booking form with your date and a few details, and I’ll come back to you with a quote.

Do you speak pro bono or offer discounts?+

Schools and not-for-profits are priced differently from corporate events, and I keep a small number of pro bono slots each year, so it’s always worth asking.

How far ahead should we book?+

As early as you can, because the calendar fills term by term. If you’re a school looking to book a student-free day, I recommend booking 6 to 12 months in advance, as those key professional learning dates book out early. If your date is close, ask anyway; sometimes it works.

Do you travel?+

Yes. I’m based in Brisbane and I speak across Australia and New Zealand. Travel and accommodation outside South East Queensland are billed at cost.

Our theme isn’t on your keynote list.+

That’s fine. The five keynotes are starting points, and every session is shaped to your theme and audience on the briefing call.

Can you present virtually?+

Keynotes, yes. Masterclasses and workshops work best in person.

Do you speak to students?+

Yes, and I love it. Student sessions are shaped on the briefing call rather than drawn from the keynote list, and you’ll find a student-friendly bio and introduction in the bios section above.

What do attendees take away?+

At the end of the session they can scan a QR code, and within 72 hours I’ll send them the slides, resources and links directly.

What do we get afterwards?+

A short debrief, and a feedback report on your audience that shows the headline numbers, what they valued, their one-word descriptions of the session and their comments.

Can we record or photograph the session?+

Photos are very welcome, and I’d love to see them afterwards. Recording is a little different, because so much of a keynote is shaped for the room on the day, so please talk to me before the event if you’d like to record it and we’ll work out what suits.

Where can we see some examples of you in action?+

The best place to start is my TEDxBrisbane talk. If you’d like to see a keynote in a room like yours, ask and I’ll send you a short clip from a recent one.
